We spent a great weekend away in Banff this past weekend. We had planned a Mexico trip this year but we figured that we could have 3 or 4 smaller holidays for the same price. So we splurged a booked a room in the Banff Springs. They had a sale on a suite… and I tell you it was more than a suite. The regular room was fancy enough for us. The suite part of the room was a separate adjoining room with it’s own entrance, bathroom, fireplace, sofas and TV. We had to wander around in there a few times so we felt it was being used since we were paying for it.

When we take these types of holidays we find we have the best time when we make no plans and spend lots of time just snoozing, snacking and watching TV. We also spent a bit of time at the pool, the spa and wandering around the hotel. A trip to Banff would not be complete without a trip to the Candy store on main street and touring the overpriced shops all selling the same tacky tourist stuff. We did manage to find some interesting baby items. If we end up with a boy I need to run back out and pick up the classic ‘boob man’ baby shirt that we saw but could not bring our selves to buy yet.

Well here we are in the VIP lounge in Cancun waiting for our flight. We got to watch out luggage get searched rather than behind closed doors.

Today we spend the day swimming in the ocean and chilling by the pool.

We had a great time and look forward to planning next years trip away to the sun!

Well we spent our last day here shopping down in Playa del Carmen. We are done with bartering and fending off the time-share people!

We headed back for some lunch and then we both had massages at the spa here in the resort.

We are just heading killing time for dinner at 9:00 PM and we are both about ready to come home. Tomorrow will be spent by / in the ocean. We need to check-out at noon and we leave here at 5:00 for the airport. They have a hospitality room but it would be nice to be able to stay in our room longer. They offer late check-out but Saturday is the busiest day and they can`t let us stay.

It looks like the weather will warm up just in time for us to return

I´m sure that no one ha any sympathy for us but it rained her most of the day. We just hung out in our room, ventured out for the odd walk and meals.

We managed to rescue a small bird that was trapped in the valted ceiling of the lobby of the hotel. It kept flying around in circles trying to fly out of the sky painted ceiling. I got it to climb in my hat and took it out side where I think it was glad to get some rest.

Tomorrow the plan is some final shopping in Playa del Carmen and some more time in the sun (unless it rains again).

Well today we headed down to Akumel where we went snorkeling in the ocean, swiming in a cave and in a cenote (sink hole). It was pretty cool. Tammy worked up the courage to jump off the 20′ plus cliff at the cenote (I have pictures to follow).

Excellent weather as usual (it rained while we were snorkeling) and tomorrow we are planing another day of relaxing by the beach / pool enjoying the day.

On a side note we are amazed by the number of families heer with small children i.e. strollers. We can´t understand why you would want a vacation to a place like this with little ones to take care of. Take them to Disneyland or the Grand Canyon!

Not much to report today. Just a great day hanging by the pool, eating some great food and relaxing. Tomorrow we are heading to Akumel for some snorkeling. Also I managed to burn the inside of my belly button - on one side no less.

Well today we ventured out to Playa del Carmen and onto Cozumel via the ferry. Tammy felt a bit sea sick but was better once we got off the boat. Cozumel was not that exciting… the same Buger King and McDonalds except on an island. We came back to Playa del Carmen and had lunch on the beach.

We think we saw someone famous. She had an entourage and big fake boobs. So either ther people she was with were her staff or they were just following the boobs. lol

Tomorrow we are just hanging out and planning the rest of our week (SCUBA, skin diving etc)

Well it only took me 12 hours here in Mexico to get a sun burn. I managed to forget to put suntan lotion on everywhere except on my chest which is now a lovely shade of pink.

We are off to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel today for a bit of shopping and touring around. The weather is looking a bit cloudy today but hopefully it clears up.

Here we are sitting in the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge waiting for our flight to Mexico. Free drinks, food and magazines. Well worth the extra cost. We both can’t wait to get into out extra large seats on the plane!
