World Trade Center

When I was scanning in my Dad’s 2,000+ slide collection I came a cross some some great photos this being one of the best (except for the people’s heads in the way).

World Trade Center vintage 70's

On the same Y’s Men’s trip in the 70’s my Dad (with hair and the mutton chops and all) got the obligatory cockpit photo back in th day when anyone could wander up and visit the cockpit. I also have some shots of them all chain smoking on the plane as well but those just make me ill thinking about it.

Shopping

This is a first in many posts about some of the wonderful idiosyncrasies that I love about Tammy.

When we go shopping (typically this happens at the magazine rack at the grocery store) Tammy will usually not take the first item on display. She will root around to the back to find the ‘un-spoiled’ one that has not been handled by every other prospective shopper. It’s not all items but typically magazines, books, and other unpackaged items that you typically use and re-use. However it does occasionally extend to packaged goods such as your typical IKEA or Costco items where people browse the boxes to see what’s inside.

Before meeting Tammy this concept had never occurred to me and I was un-knowingly living on the edge purchasing items with enough forensic evidence on them to make the CSI people drool. My own shopping habits changed upon returning from a solo shopping trip for Tammy. I was unable to answer her question regarding if the People magazine I had purchased her was in fact ‘from the the back’.

Now when I am shopping and I about to take something from the shelf I think about this, then Tammy and then I smile. It’s just one of those little things I love about her.

Banff

We spent a great weekend away in Banff this past weekend. We had planned a Mexico trip this year but we figured that we could have 3 or 4 smaller holidays for the same price. So we splurged a booked a room in the Banff Springs. They had a sale on a suite… and I tell you it was more than a suite. The regular room was fancy enough for us. The suite part of the room was a separate adjoining room with it’s own entrance, bathroom, fireplace, sofas and TV. We had to wander around in there a few times so we felt it was being used since we were paying for it.

When we take these types of holidays we find we have the best time when we make no plans and spend lots of time just snoozing, snacking and watching TV. We also spent a bit of time at the pool, the spa and wandering around the hotel. A trip to Banff would not be complete without a trip to the Candy store on main street and touring the overpriced shops all selling the same tacky tourist stuff. We did manage to find some interesting baby items. If we end up with a boy I need to run back out and pick up the classic ‘boob man’ baby shirt that we saw but could not bring our selves to buy yet.

My boys can swim!

Well I am going to be a father. Tammy and I sprung the news on our parents this Christmas Eve to everyone’s delight. We are shooting for a mid-July due date - just in time for the Stampede. Tammy is hoping she can still get in at least one day of he stock dogs and a corn dog.

Other than a battle with morning (evening) sickness and extended naps and early bedtimes Tammy has been well. I am trying my best to keep Tammy well fed and rested which is the least I can do considering the work she has / will put in during the pregnancy.

We have a friendly bet on going regarding the sex of the baby. Tammy has all first born girls and I have all first born males on my side. I have however conceded if it is opposite sex fraternal twins (holy crap) the girl would be first given my habit of sleeping in late. Feel free to support my side of the battle in the comment section below :^)

Tammy

Today is our 5 year anniversary of our first date. Tammy has posted a blog entry to commemorate it.

5 years goes fast when you are having fun. I still remember that day like it was yesterday. The nervousness, the jitters and butterflies. The wings… not such a good idea but it worked out in the end and I didn’t scare her off. It’s kind of fitting now that we are blogging back and forth on our life together considering how we met. 5 years down a lifetime to go.

I love you Tammy.

Tamara Giles P. Eng.

Congratulations to Tammy on receiving her P. Eng. (Professional Engineer) designation! More than a rubber stamp, new business cards or signing passports her P. Eng. gives her a new level of responsibility and stature.
